Aurora Media Worldwide and North One Television named FIA Formula E host broadcasters in four-year deal

The contract to produce coverage of the FIA Formula E motor racing series has been awarded to a co-venture between Aurora Media Worldwide and North One Television. The new four-year host broadcaster’s contract begins from the 2017/18 season, which starts in Hong Kong in December and includes 14 races.

The global electric racing brand launched in 2013 and stages major events in Asia, South America, Europe, Africa and North America. It features unique street circuits in the middle of major cities and attracts some of the biggest car manufacturers, including Audi, Jaguar, BMW, Renault, Citroen and Mahindra to compete with cutting-edge technology in aspirational settings.

From next season, FIA Formula E will not only boast more car brands than Formula One, but also usher in a major uplift in output with expanded host coverage including new Virtual and Augmented Reality innovations, vastly more on-board and other special cameras features.

Innovative shoulder programming will be a priority, creating a first-class blend of sports and entertainment content, designed to grow the brand into a world-renowned sports entertainment property.

The new contract was awarded after an exhaustive and highly competitive three-month tender process involving some of the biggest television sport companies across Europe.

After whittling down an original list of 12, Formula E shortlisted three bidders to a final stage and ultimately awarded the deal to the venture between all3media indie North One Television and incumbent producer Aurora Media Worldwide, the company which built the coverage from the ground-up when the series originally launched.

Aurora Media Worldwide (AMW) became Media Partner and Host Broadcaster to FIA Formula E in 2013. The company, founded by Lawrence Duffy in 2012, has quickly established itself as an international and multi-award winning sports content business. Aurora is also the Host Broadcaster of: Goodwood Motorsport; The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships; BWF Superseries Finals and the innovative Six Day Cycling series.

North One produced three-time BAFTA award winning coverage of Formula One, as well as promoting and host producing the FIA World Rally Championships, and currently makes MotoGP for BT and host produces the Isle of Man TT.  It intends to add its factual entertainment weight to the programming of Formula E in the coming years. Its Chief Executive Neil Duncanson will join Aurora’s Lawrence Duffy as co-Executive Producers. North One will also welcome the return of Dave Lewis as Creative Director. He will join Series Director Westbury Gillett and Series Producer Mike Scott.
