Premier League coverage helps BT Media & Broadcast to beat existing simultaneous visions record

On 16 April, BT Media & Broadcast exceeded its previous best of 32 visions (live TV feeds) into and from a single site, by delivering 40 simultaneous visions using its next-generation fibre-based TV outside broadcast network. This was in addition to other multiple data feeds.

All 40 visions were delivered from Premier League football stadiums around the country to either BT Tower, customer premises or other grounds.

With a global audience of more than 4.7 billion, the Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world. Audience expectations are high and broadcasters are continually innovating to bring the game to life. Multiple camera angles on and off the pitch, and different formats such as UHD/4K, VR and immersive audio are resulting in an increasing number of feeds having to be to be managed out of the stadia.

Mark Wilson-Dunn, Vice President of BT Media & Broadcast, explains: “Only two years ago we thought 17 visions – not simultaneous – was a lot, but our new network build and the propositions we have developed around it seem to have unlocked limitless possibilities. We believe this volume of simultaneous visions is unrivalled anywhere else in the UK, and possibly in Europe. We’re proud to be delivering these game-changing services for our customers and are excited about the continued growth and future innovation we can enable.”
