BEA To Highlight ‘Digital Evolution’ at BEA2015

Co-located with NAB 2015 and open to show attendees, Broadcast Education Association’s 60th annual convention and 13th annual Festival of Media Arts BEA2015, will be themed “Digital Evolution in Revolutionary Times.” It will be held April 12-15 at the Westgate Las Vegas.

On Sunday April 12 at noon, the session titled “Rowan University Presents … A Conversation With David Simon” will feature the creator and head writer of The Wire in discussion with Rowan University’s Mike Donovan and David Bianculli.

At 6 p.m., BEA President 2015-16 John Allen Hendricks will host the annual BEA Opening Night Awards Ceremony, which will recognize faculty and graduate-student work in research, as well as scholarship winners and best examples of leadership and service to BEA.

Day 2 will feature “Shelly Palmer Presents … Digital Wisdom: Thought Leadership for a Connected World” at 2:30 p.m. Palmer, managing director, Digital Media Group, Landmark Ventures/ShellyPalmer and WNYW New York’s on-air tech expert, will discuss state-of-the-art connected and connectable technology and its implications for the industry.

The BEA Best of Festival King Foundation Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday April 13 at 6 p.m. Sponsored by The Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation, the ceremony will feature the top juried faculty and student creative work in the following categories: audio, video, documentary, interactive multimedia, news, scriptwriting, two-year and small colleges, and sports.

On Tuesday April 14 at 10:30 a.m., the Television Academy Foundation will host “Coffee With … Fred Savage” Savage, the youngest person ever nominated for an Emmy as best leading performer for The Wonder Years, has nearly 30 years in front of and behind the camera and will discuss what it is like to direct hit TV shows like Modern Family.

The final day of the convention will feature the American Society of Cinematographers’ annual “Cinematography Master Class” at 10:30 a.m. Now in its seventh year, the supersession will explore the opportunities of filmmaking with today’s hottest technology.

BEA will also feature the NAB Show Career Fair on Wednesday April 15, held in partnership with the NAB Education Foundation. The largest career fair in broadcast, the event is designed to match high-quality candidates with potential employers from major broadcasting companies. In addition to a variety of media recruiters, Career Day offers a series of informative sessions and one-on-one career coaching.
