Encompass, V-Nova Offer Perseus-Enabled Next-Gen Video Compression

Encompass Digital Media (Booth SU3421) is partnering with V-Nova to deliver video solutions to the media industry in three specific areas: contribution-quality video via the Internet at a lower cost than fiber; high-quality streaming media over-the-top, using substantially less bandwidth than required today; and 4K and 8K UHD television via satellite to cable systems, using substantially less bandwidth and backwards-compatible with existing H.264 distribution.

V-Nova’s Perseus compression technology embraces the future of video distribution and shows a massive shift in the entire video-bitrate-quality landscape, enabling UHD quality at HD bitrates, HD at SD bitrates, and SD video at audio bitrates. The relationship allows both companies to better serve clients by delivering more-compelling video experiences across platforms with dramatically reduced bandwidth requirements.

“As a leading provider of media and broadcasting infrastructure, Encompass is constantly on the lookout for ground-breaking innovations. We have partnered with V-Nova based on the product maturity and years of testing they have undergone in professional broadcasting. This separates Perseus from the many less mature compression-technology offerings that we often hear about. The fact that Perseus provides over 3X compression and is simultaneously backward-compatible with the existing ecosystem (for example, H.264) and video assets makes V-Nova’s Perseus offering highly attractive,” says Encompass CEO Chris Walters.

Adds V-Nova CEO/co-founder Guido Meardi, “We are extremely proud to work with an industry leader like Encompass. The fact that Perseus integrates seamlessly with existing hardware, decoding devices, and workflows means that our partners and customers can benefit in the near term within existing infrastructure and bandwidth capacity.”
