General Cable Showcases Individual, Bundled Blown Optical Fiber Systems
General Cable (Booth C6916) is demonstrating its Blown Optical Fiber System. BOF technology provides flexibility in broadcast-cabling infrastructure design while anticipating and facilitating future changes as the network evolves. General Cable’s system feature dual blowing technologies within a single installation machine and allows the user to match the technology to the type and severity of the installation route.
General Cable’s BOF System provides significant and measurable time, cost, and service benefits to the cabling infrastructure throughout its life cycle. Offered as two to12 fibers per Microduct or as six, 12, or 18 bundled fibers per Microduct solution, it reduces total lifecycle cost and increases flexibility for designers of fiber-optic networks, compared with conventional fiber-optic systems. The General Cable system accommodates Moves, Adds and Changes easily and quickly with minimal disruption.
It offers advantages over other blown fiber systems. Using compressed air instead of nitrogen, the system can be safely installed in any environment.
It also offers users two different systems to suit the different types of installation they face with a single installation machine capable of both technologies. The Blolite Individual Blown Optical Fiber System is best suited for broadcast-premises applications with shorter distances that may contain tight bends and turns. The NextGen Bundled Blown Optical Fiber System is suited for applications with longer, straighter paths. Bundles are composed of six color-coded optical fibers encapsulated in an extruded blowable jacket. They can be “uninstalled” and repurposed elsewhere in a network.
