Level 3 Extends Vyvx Network With On-Net Connections to 29 U.S. Venues
Level 3 Communications (Ren Deluxe – G) is enhancing its Vyvx broadcast network by extending Level 3’s fiber directly into 29 additional professional sports venues in the U.S.
This network extension will bring to 55 the total number of U.S.-based venues “on-net” with Level 3 fiber, and total connectivity to more than 100 professional venues and 86 college facilities. Connecting directly to those venues, Level 3 can offer its Vyvx broadcast network solutions and expanded network services — voice, data, security – plus added flexibility to scale as customers’ connectivity needs evolve, including 4K-video acquisition and distribution.
Sports viewing in the U.S. has grown substantially over the last few years, requiring large amounts of bandwidth, including the ability to stream broadcasts to a wide variety of mobile devices. According to research firm TDG, “among adult broadband users, on average, 22% of weekly television viewing is spent watching sports, translating to roughly eight hours of sports-video viewing per week.”
Says Level 3 CMO Anthony Christie, “There’s no question that sports broadcasting — particularly live games — garners some of the highest viewership in the U.S. This important investment in Level 3’s Vyvx infrastructure not only provides broadcasters and venues with access to a wider variety of network services but also allows for future-proofing to ensure they are connected to a network that can adapt for continued growth and changes in technology.”
Level 3’s Vyvx broadcast services are part of the Level 3 Video Cloud, a global provider of video acquisition, distribution, storage, and delivery for broadcasting and media companies.
