Promise Debuts Thunderbolt Devices, NAS, and Scale-Out Storage Solutions

Promise Technology (Booth SL12109) is introducing four storage solutions engineered for the media and entertainment industry: Pegasus2 R2+, SANLink2 16G FC, Vess R2600 PRO and VSky A-Series. They are intended to provide users with ultimate transferability, the fastest connection to a Fibre Channel SAN, a cost-effective rich-media NAS solution, and the ability to scale, access and archive at petabyte volumes.

Pegasus2 R2+, the latest addition to Promise’s line of Thunderbolt 2 RAID storage solutions, is designed to be a Thunderbolt media-ingest station with 6 TB of RAID 0/1/JBOD-configurable storage on two hot-swappable hard-disk drives. The R2+ comes with a media bay with optional pods, including a small-form-factor 1-TB HDD pod, SSD reader, and SD/CF card-reader pods. The design is intended to facilitate data migration and also offers the flexibility of dual Thunderbolt 2 ports and USB 3.0.

SANLink2 16G FC boosts a user’s portable and desktop Thunderbolt interfaces to 16G speeds by connecting them seamlessly to the Fibre Channel SAN. It comes standard with dual Thunderbolt 2 ports and dual 16G FC ports, suitable for dealing with large data transfers on a daily basis. SANLink2 16G FC is quiet, maintains a small eco-footprint, and supports OS X and Promise’s entire VTrak series of products.

Vess R2600 Pro is a fast, reliable and cost-effective storage solution for multi-user rich-media compressed workflows. Delivering scale-up capability and fast NAS connectivity via dual active 10Gbit Ethernet controllers, Vess R2600 Pro is suited to compressed workflows using popular non-linear editors, such as Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Apple Final Cut Pro X. Vess R2600 Pro is a content-distribution solution for many small unstructured-data media files and can support up to 22 Apple ProRes streams (ProRes 422 HQ [1080 at 29.97 fps]) and six streams of 4K ProRes (ProRes 4444 10-bit Quad HD 3 [840×2160 at 23.98 fps] ) across any number of NAS clients. Optimized for end-to-end workflows, Vess R2600 is suitable for midsize businesses requiring a rich-media NAS solution that delivers enterprise RAID reliability and performance, no matter whether they are ingesting, editing, delivering or archiving content.

Rounding out the new offerings is VSky A-Series, a scale-out storage solution designed for multi-petabyte environments and suited to backup/archive and content delivery. It offers a unified storage-appliance architecture supporting Object, Block (iSCSI) and File (NAS)-based storage and provides such features as thin provisioning and local and remote replication. With VSky A-Series, users can monitor all software and hardware from a single Web interface. It can be deployed as the A1100, a 1RU appliance that connects to Promise Vess and VTrak storage, or as the A1970, a high-density 4RU 70-bay, top-loaded storage-server solution.

“With the debut of Pegasus2 R2+ and SANLink2, we are proud to not only offer the most complete portfolio of Thunderbolt devices on the market but to also deliver new solutions that provide incredible flexibility and simplicity,” says Promise Technology CEO James Lee. “The media and entertainment industry evolves very quickly, and it places a high priority delivering new solutions that will help broadcasters and video professionals work more efficiently and easily. This is why we have expanded our range of solutions with new offerings like Vess R2600 PRO and VSky A-Series, which are perfect complements to the multiple solutions Promise offers for single- and multi-user access, editing, sharing, and distribution of media.”

Pegasus2 R2+, SANLink2 16G FC, Vess R2600 PRO and VSky A-Series will be available in the second quarter through the Promise global network of distributors and value-added resellers.
