Vizrt, Deltatre to Showcase Live Virtual Sports Graphics

Vizrt will be showcasing a new live virtual sports graphics solution at NAB 2015, co-developed with sports media services company deltatre. By using an integration between deltatre’s Magmasports TV graphics platform and Vizrt’s Viz Arena image-based camera tracking and rendering technology, football tournament rights holders can now quickly incorporate live player tracking graphics and data into the broadcast. The new live virtual sports graphics solution will be demonstrated on Vizrt’s NAB booth (SL2417).

With the new solution, broadcasters easily identify a moving player on the pitch and use custom virtual graphics to highlight and track them. Live in-game statistics from the Magma platform can be included within the same on-air virtual graphics.

The solution’s data analysis system automatically suggests relevant stories or events during the live game. Important game events appear in an intuitive timeline, such as a special passing distribution of a player, a high ball-recovery line, or a variation of the official line-up. The touchscreen interface brings that information on-air, automatically attached to and tracking the right player. The user interface has been designed so that anyone within the production can operate it.

“The vast amount of data gathered during every soccer game makes it very difficult to pull out the most important information at the right time – travelled distance or current speed of a player does not give a real insight into the game,” says Stephan Würmlin Stadler, Executive Vice President of Sports for Vizrt. “The joint forces of Vizrt anddeltatre provide a solution, which shows the most relevant information using an intuitive visualization. Reducing the information flow to relevant insights allows the viewer to be informed, while appreciating the full beauty of the game.”

“Broadcasters are always looking for ways to deliver more in-depth analysis to a sports broadcast. This new integration between Magma and Viz Arena means they can deliver player-relevant information throughout the game. This will create new opportunities for innovative storytelling.” said Carlo De Marchis, Chief Product Officer at deltatre.
