FIS reports record digital engagement and TV viewers at Trondheim 2025
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Trondheim 2025 saw significant television viewership and digital engagement, reflecting the event’s broad audience reach both at home and online.
Social media activity surrounding the championships was high, with the four FIS channels—Cross-Country, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, and Para Snow Sports—reaching a total audience of 43.6 million. This marked a 169% increase compared to the previous championships in Planica 2023. Interaction levels also rose, with 1.8 million engagements recorded, representing a 304% increase from the prior event.
Competition footage shared by nearly 100 athletes and National Ski Associations via the FIS Content Exchange platform contributed to the digital reach. These posts generated a total audience of 3.1 million and approximately 130,000 interactions.
Television ratings indicated strong interest in the event, particularly in Norway. Infront Sports & Media, the media and marketing partner for the championships, reported a 90% television audience market share in the host nation. Central Europe also recorded high viewership, with more than 60 million viewers across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland tuning into live broadcasts.
For viewers in regions without broadcast rights, FIS TV and YouTube provided access to 121 livestreams, including the Para Cross-Country Sprint events, as well as opening and medal ceremonies. These streams attracted 150,000 views during the championships.
The championships also saw the introduction of Para disciplines within an able-bodied Nordic World Ski Championships, with Para Cross-Country Sprint events scheduled alongside the Team Sprint competitions.
Attendance at the event was strong, with more than 230,000 spectators at the Granåsen Arena and at least 170,000 watching along the course. Over 200,000 people attended medal ceremonies and cultural events at Medal Plaza in Trondheim’s city centre.
