All-England Club to increase prize money, add Court One roof

Ahead of this year’s Wimbledon Championships, the All-England Club has announced plans for a dramatic, 40% increase in prize money for the 2013 event. Players will receive a grand total of £22.6m for this year’s event – a near-four-fold increase on the 2012 total of £6.5m – with the men’s and women’s singles winners each standing to pocket £1.6m.

Meanwhile, following the successful introduction of a roof for the Centre Court in 2009, the All-England Club will add a roof to Court One in time for the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.

Once the project is complete, a total of 26,500 covered seats will be available across the courts.
