Aurora Media Worldwide and Grabyo have teamed up to deliver a new form of hybrid broadcast and digital production service for broadcasters, media rights holders and publishers.

The pair have launched their partnership with Super League Triathlon (SLT), the swim-bike-run series which features athletes competing in short and exciting race formats around the world. Aurora is delivering real-time video highlights and live updates for SLT’s 2021 events using Grabyo’s live video clipping and editing tools. Aurora was appointed as host broadcaster and content partner for SLT earlier this year.

The partnership helped deliver the first events of the 2021 season with the SLT Arena Games in London in March and Rotterdam in April. These took place as hybrid events blending real life swimming action with virtual interactive bike and run legs. The events targeted an audience bereft of the opportunity to watch live sport and enabled athletes to compete in a COVID-secure environment. This was made possible by new production capabilities from Aurora that put AR, VR and data visualisation at the core of the broadcast.

Later in the year Aurora will be producing Super League Triathlon’s Championship Series in which cloud-based remote production techniques will again be centre stage. The Series in September will feature the sport’s brightest stars racing in four events around the world (London, Munich, Malibu and Jersey). Using Grabyo, Aurora and Super League Triathlon will centralise digital video production in Grabyo’s cloud platform, enabling teams to collaborate and produce content from anywhere in the world.

This partnership also brings the potential for rightsholders to publish more video content rapidly, maximising fan engagement around live events. Aurora and Grabyo’s collaboration will help to deliver broadcast and digital content simultaneously across multiple platforms, allowing consumers to engage with content regardless of where they are.

“We are excited to work with Grabyo to deliver Super League Triathlon events now and many more in the future,” said Barry Flanigan, chief strategy officer at Aurora. “This partnership allows for collaboration across all of our teams to deliver the most engaging digital content possible. Grabyo simplifies video workflows in the cloud and allows Aurora and our clients to publish our social content as soon as it happens.”

The SLT Arena Games are the first events of an ongoing partnership between Aurora and Grabyo. The two organisations will continue to collaborate to increase the scope and flexibility of hybrid production and reduce the duplication of production services for digital, social and broadcast TV.

“Partnering with a forward-looking company like Aurora Media Worldwide brings real value to live productions,” said Gareth Capon, Grabyo CEO. “Combining video services for broadcast and digital streamlines fan engagement, increases access and brings fans closer to the action. We look forward to developing this partnership for future events.”
