Bexel providing cabling, support and more for PGA coverage

After supporting CBS Sports at the Masters golf tournament in Georgia at the Augusta National Golf Club in April, Bexel travelled to Rochester, New York, for the PGA Championship last weekend at the Oak Hill Country Club. The last of the four golf majors of the year, the PGA Championship was covered by TNT for weekday and early weekend play and CBS for weekend afternoon coverage.

“We supported both CBS Sports and TNT on site in Rochester with different packages,” says Lee Estroff, VP of account development for Bexel.

For TNT, Bexel provided approximately 40,000 feet of fiber optic cabling, multiple Apple Final Cut Pro editing systems, HD monitoring and audio support gear. For the fourth consecutive year, the TNT broadcast booth sported Litepanel 1×1 and Sola LED fixtures.

TNT also produced the online coverage on PGA.com, which this year offered an upgraded version of the PGA Championship Live with multiple streams not offered on the broadcast networks.

“PGA.com had its own booth, which we also outfitted with Litepanel products,” says Estroff. “A lot of what we provided to TNT was used for both broadcast and online content.”

For CBS Sports, Bexel furnished twice the amount of fiber optic cabling – about 80,000 feet – for AV connectivity across the Oak Hill course. Bexel also supplied on-site Avid, graphic and audio support gear, as well as mobile power, monitoring, and a complement of wide-angle lenses.

Both CBS and TNT utilised new Litepanels Sola 12s for outdoor player interviews to counterbalance the intense sunlight. The Sola 12 LED Fresnel provided controllable, daylight-balanced illumination.

Looking ahead, Bexel will join TNT in Southampton, Bermuda, in October for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, providing a full flypack for the tournament that will feature the winners of the four majors competing head to head at the Port Royal Golf Course.

“We are pleased CBS and TNT continue to rely on Bexel for these high-profile events,” adds Estroff. “We purposefully strive to offer reliability and first-rate service to clients. Our expertise in broadcast and robust equipment offerings allows us to bring the best gear packages and on-site engineers for smooth telecasting.”
