Blackmagic Design for innovative SC Freiburg screen installation

Bundesliga team SC Freiburg has implemented an innovative solution that enables the inhouse technical team to broadcast two video channels in sync to make the most of the screens available in the stadium. Aachen-based software developer Joy Media built a bespoke PC-based solution that incorporates two Blackmagic Design DeckLink Studio capture cards in order to send HD-SDI signals to two video channels.

The channels are frame-synchronised, with one feeding two 30sqm LED screens at either end of the pitch, and the second feeding the pitchside banners.

Reflecting on a project that brings video content to 24,500 spectactors, SC Freiburg IT manager Rolf Müller remarks: “Because of the very different surface areas, the content being broadcast isn’t identical, but for example, you might have the main advert content running on the LED screens, with the logo or campaign website address running underneath on the banners. We felt that this solution would offer us the absolute synchronicity that we need for a professional ad platform, and the DeckLink cards offer an affordable, reliable and high performance support.

“The ability to work with compressed video formats such as ProRes and DNxHD means we are working at the absolute highest quality possible, so the content being broadcast to the screens is not only in perfect sync, but as close to the advertiser’s creative vision as we possibly can be.”
