Broadcast Academy underpins new live TV simulator with EVS X-One

The Broadcast Academy, the training and legacy unit of host broadcast specialist HBS supported by EVS, has deployed a new live TV simulator based on EVS’ X-One unified live production system. The compact simulator will allow the Broadcast Academy to deliver a broader range of courses in more locations with a real-world live production platform.

The simulator will enable a range of new training programs, including a course on ‘Lean Production’ at London’s National Film and Television School (NFTS) that’s scheduled to launch in 2020, and will focus on delivering live productions at lower operational costs. Other courses are also set to roll out early next year.

The new live production simulator will allow the Academy to reach many more students in wide-ranging locations, which aligns with their core objective of training a broader, more diverse talent pool. The system also enables course participants to focus on the editorial aspects of live production rather than technical set-up requirements.

With built-in live switching, graphics insertion and audio mixing, EVS’ X-One combines industry trusted speed and reliability with software-defined technology for an all-in-one live production system ideal for small and mid-sized events. By using the system, a single operator can switch between multiple camera feeds, create replays and highlights, control audio, add graphics to live programming and play back content – all from a set of intuitive interfaces and with guaranteed broadcast-standard quality output.

The dedicated courses using the X-One simulator are essential to prepare professionals in the software-based technologies now routinely used for sports productions. It also provides a platform for video professionals to develop their competencies in the field, from live direction and storytelling to replays, graphic insertions, and audio applications.

HBS senior production manager Olivier Meaux Saint-Marc commented: “This new fully IT-based TV production simulator will significantly enhance our offerings and allow broadcast professionals to train, acquire and further develop skills that will prepare them for successful careers in live production.”

The Broadcast Academy, in partnership with EVS and IBC, is presenting ‘Lean Production Using Software-Defined Technologies’, a master class at IBC2019 featuring the new live TV production simulator.
