BT Sport App expected to pass million downloads mark soon

During a keynote speech made to the Royal Television Society recently, BT TV CEO Marc Watson highlighted the continuing success of the BT Sport App by voicing the expectation that a million customers will have downloaded by the time the next month is up.

Watson remarked that customers who watch via the App – rather than via their TVs – are not currently captured in the BARB statistics, and said it be useful if such viewers could be included in the future.

More than three million households are equipped to watch the BT Sport channels on their TVs – either via satellite, BT TV or Virgin Media. While many of them who have BT Broadband have also downloaded the App, BT says there are hundreds of thousands of homes that have chosen to watch BT Sport exclusively online.

“The BT Sport App has proved to be a great success with our customers,” says Watson. “More than a million homes will have soon downloaded the App and, whilst many of those can also watch via their TVs, there are literally hundreds of thousands of people who have chosen to watch exclusively online.”
