BT Sport selects deltatre to help deliver new UEFA Champions League coverage

BT has selected sport digital and broadcast specialist deltatre to deliver an innovative way to watch UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League games in UK and Ireland for the 2015-2018 seasons.

BT Sport is now broadcasting every match of the two UEFA competitions – a first for any UK broadcaster. As part of the service, all matches are being made available through a new section of the BT Sport app on iOS and Android, as well as via the BT Sport desktop player. The enhanced functionality offers users a variety of interactive features to capture the lexcitement of Europe’s premier football competition – and to relive every moment.

The new groundbreaking service is supported by UEFA (European Union of Football Associations). Building on BT Sport’s existing digital presence, deltatre is supplying its Diva video multiplatform solution to provide fans with the beyond-TV experience, with content that is normally not available on traditional linear TV. Fans can access all key moments of a match – either live or on-demand – using interactive overlays and timeline navigation. The app displays real-time statistics, player heat maps and goal replays from different camera angles – and in-match alerts display goals from all simultaneous games being played. Fans never have to miss a beat with the associated real-time picture-in-picture goals available with one click.

“With fans at the core of the action, the BT Sport App now reaches a more advanced level of engagement. deltatre’s sports expertise truly helps our audience gain an unrivalled and customisable football experience through immersive technology. The reaction to the app from fans has been incredible, they are clearly relishing this new way of watching football online,” said David Kelly, GM BT Sport product and innovation.

“We are thrilled to help BT Sport reach new standards for its digital football coverage across their ever evolving digital platforms. We love working with ambitious clients who want to push the boundaries and make sport more exciting to watch and we are really looking forward to fulfilling this ambition with BT Sport,” said Chris Catling, head of deltatre UK.

“We are providing a customised solution specifically for BT Sport sourcing content from UEFA Next Generation Production services launched for this new cycle, which is connecting audiences and immersing them in a whole new, deeper level of football experience,” said Gilles Mas, international football director at deltatre.
