The new deal – which begins with the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 16 – continues directly on from the previous four year agreement, and once again includes rights to both Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches, as well as the Bundesliga relegation play-offs at the end of each season.
Going beyond the live action, Sky Italia’s German football package – its first broadcast of the German top flight was in 2003 – includes a range of highlight and magazine shows, and will promote the Bundesliga across its digital and social platforms.
“Our connection with Sky Italia has run for more than 20 years, and this long-standing relationship, characterised by mutual respect and trust, has allowed us to evolve with the ever-changing market,” said Peer Naubert, CEO of Bundesliga International.
“Working with an industry leader that shares our commitment to bringing the best of German football to fans throughout Italy, the result is the sustained growth of the Bundesliga. Together we can continue this trend, delivering a best-in-class product to some of the most passionate football fans in the world.”
“Sky is delighted to announce this new agreement with Bundesliga, an important league that enriches Sky Sport’s offering dedicated to international football,” said a spokesperson for Sky Italia.
“Bundesliga is synonymous with talent and entertainment, a German football heritage that will remain available to all fans for another four seasons.”
