BVE Preview – Part Three

BVE logoIt is a mere three weeks to the start of BVE, and this clutch of manufacturer previews for the show include 4K from Sony, slo-mo from I-MOVIX, and products from a host more including Wohler, Signiant, SGO and more.

Sony Professional will have its full range of 3D, 35mm, audio and Trimaster EL OLED kit on display, along with the groundbreaking F65 4K digital cinematography camera. 4K is, of course, an area the manufacturer is very keen on promoting. “One of the key forces driving the industry this year will be 4K technology, with products such as Sony’s groundbreaking F65 motion picture camera proving to be a catalyst in the market. At BVE, Sony will show how customers are using 4K to excite viewers by enabling them to experience the highest quality images possible, just as the director intended” said Dave Cheesman, Sales Manager, Sony Professional.

I-MOVIX and EDITEC will be putting their SprintCam Vvs HD system and the X10 solution through their respective paces. The brand-new X10 system is the industry’s first live ultra motion system that delivers real-time continuous slow motion in full HD at 300 fps (or 600 fps in 720p). Developed in partnership with EVS, the X10 system is used with an EVS XT3 production server under LSM control, and smashes the performance ceiling of existing continuous super-slow motion systems, which have so far been restricted to 75fps. SprintCam Vvs HD operates at up to 5,680 fps in 720p (or up to 2,640 fps in 1080i); and provides instant replay at native HD resolution and image quality with a dual output for a live and replay feed.

Roland Systems Group will rock up with its flagship standalone and portable recording products, including the R-1000 dedicated 48 track audio recorder/ player which provides an efficient 48 channel solution for live recording/playback and sound check will be on show alongside the R-26 portable hand held recorder.

Wohler Products’ DVM-2443 MPEG video monitor is billed as a cost-effective four-screen monitoring system that offers broadcasters advanced test and measurement features in a stand-alone 2-RU configuration. First introduced at IBC2011, the DVM-2443 incorporates four 4.3-inch 16:9 ratio LED backlit displays for flexible and convenient at-a-glance monitoring of program content from MPEG-2/4 ASI streams, as well as PID table metadata, waveform, and vectorscope overlays, and audio-level meters. Also on display at BVE 2012 will be the new RMQ-230 quad split video monitor, which allows users to watch video and monitoring data in up to four display windows on a single 23-inch 1920×1080 LED backlight screen. Plus, the company has a new dual SDI audio monitor, the compact AMP1-3G, that provides instantaneous selection and summing of any grouping of SDI audio pairs. The low-cost unit also features adjustable volume and balance controls, clear display of levels, and other critical information on bright 2.4-inch LED-backlit LCD displays, with configurations that can be created, saved, and recalled remotely via Ethernet connection using an intuitive PC interface.

Over on the Signiant stand, you can see the nxt-generation Signiant Media Exchange (MX), a private cloud solution for fast, secure file transfer designed specifically for the business needs of media content providers.. In addition to a browser-based client for sharing large files more efficiently, MX 9.5 expands user access options with powerfully simple clients that automate the unattended delivery of content to any desktop or mobile device.

In 3D land, SGO is once again a key sponsor of the 3D Revolution Theatre at BVE. This year, the SGO Mistika sessions will feature an interesting one from BSkyB on the Continuing Developments for 3D in Broadcast by Online Stereographer, Francisco Ramos, which will include BSkyB’s new Stereo 3D test card and various new projects for television.

Arkivum is to demonstrate its new data archiving service, A-Stor, which guarantees 100% data integrity, on the stand of IT hardware reseller and systems integrator ERA, Arkivum’s first go-to-market partner. A-Stor is a cost-effective service that uses industry-leading LTO/LTFS data tape technology and open standards to deliver fast and efficient online access. Using a gateway appliance that sits on the customer’s network, A-Stor delivers the archive as a single file system. This enables the user to easily search and retrieve data with the point and click of a mouse, providing online access within five minutes. “As a remote service, A-Stor not only significantly reduces a customer’s costs, being less than half the price of an in-house SAN solution, but also their power consumption and heat generation, offering an estimated 90% reduction in carbon emissions,” says the company.

Meanwhile, broadcast audio technology specialists HHB Communications will be highlighting a comprehensive range of professional audio loudness tools. As new loudness standards gain traction in Europe those in the media supply chain are adopting a mix of hardware and software loudness technologies for both linear and non-linear environments. HHB will be focussing on four loudness applications: OB and Live Production, Post Production, Playout and Archive with technologies from DK-Technologies, Dolby, Nugen, RTW, TC Electronic and Wohler. HHB product specialists will be on hand to discuss the latest in loudness technology.

Lastly, Pyser-SGI will be exhibiting a comprehensive range of top quality, multi-format high resolution monitors from TVLogic; cost effective ENG telephoto, super wide angle ENG, and mini-box studio HD lenses from Fujinon; and a selection of field production cases and bags from Porta-Brace.
