C4 Racing Horse Tracker in use throughout 2013

Channel 4 has been deploying its second screen app, the Channel 4 Horse Tracker, throughout this year’s coverage after a successful debut in April at the John Smith’s Grand National.

The Horse Tracker app secured 150,000 downloads ahead of the Grand National. It has subsequently been used at a series of major events, culminating in the Ascot British Champions’ Day on 19 October.

With Horse Tracker, viewers are able to track the position and speed opf the horses using Monterosa’s LViS second screen technology and TurfTrax data, with audio watermarking to allow users to access live race information synchronised with their TV coverage of the race.

Downloadable from the Apple App Store with a non-synchronised version available from channel4.com/racing, Horse Track allows users to track one horse, a multiple selection, or the live positions of all the horses in a race.

Tom McDonnell, commercial director at Monterosa, says: “Watching racing with Horse Tracker running is a completely enhanced experience. We’re only just starting to see how the combination of high quality TV coverage and live, personalised sports data can make a sport like racing more interesting and relevant for connected audiences.”
