Calrec Audio renews Bronze sponsorship of SVG Europe

Broadcast audio specialist Calrec Audio has renewed its Bronze sponsorship of SVG Europe.

Calrec has been leading the way in broadcast audio with innovative solutions built for the world’s premier broadcast, sports and media productions for over six decades and counting. All productions from the smallest to the largest scaled networks can be supported with Calrec’s expanded range of audio mixing consoles, IP connectivity, virtualised and cloud-based processing, and remote and distributed production capabilities, ensuring scalable, future-ready solutions for every production environment.

This year has seen Calrec technology deployed across several high-profile sporting events and installations including live cricket. One of Gravity Media’s next-generation outside broadcast units used Calrec’s True Control 2.0 technology to integrate with any of the company’s nine dedicated sound control rooms at its White City production centre in London. The new Nova 60 series OB truck delivered world-class cricket coverage all summer, covering 93 matches and 17 venues.

NEP UK’s new NEO hybrid outside broadcast trailer also relied on remote workflows to minimise production costs while maintaining the same high broadcast standards for Sky Sports’ EFL production coverage. Aiming to reduce the number of vehicles NEP sends to site and designed around headless Calrec DSP cores and an onboard compact Type R mixing panel for full disaster recovery, the lightweight mobile unit has been covering up to three EFL matches every single week and is remotely controlled in Sky’s production hub in Osterley.

In Cardiff, the Cymru Broadcast Centre (CBC) at Whisper Cymru is focusing on the future with a 36-fader Argo S console in its flagship PCR 1 control room and a compact Calrec Brio in its PCR 2 gallery. As Wales’s first remote production facility, it is designed to be one of the most accessible remote production hubs in Europe and was originally built as the remote hub for Channel 4 and More 4’s 2024 Paralympics coverage. This year, it has catered for a huge variety of live content, including the Women’s World Super League for BBCs One, Two and Red Button coverage, as well as the Women’s Rugby World Cup tournament that saw England win its third world title in September.

In terms of product innovation, Calrec recently launched the 48-fader Argo M, a compact yet powerful console that optimises workspace with full-sized fader strips and intuitive user controls. Its integrated DSP, ST 2110 support, and cloud connectivity make it a standout for hybrid and remote production models. German OB company Steiger Media has installed a 36-fader Argo M in its brand new 7.5 tonne OB unit, which is designed to support full 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos monitoring.

As we head into 2026, the industry will continue to see the expansion of production ecosystems. Calrec’s True Control 2.0, a next-generation remote control interface enhances workflow efficiency and operator flexibility across distributed teams, empowering every production. Controlling Calrec systems from any location, it provides access to more cores, more faders, more surfaces, and more control to adapt to production requirements.

Alongside remote-control technologies like True Control 2.0, cloud-based production allows broadcasters to facilitate remote collaboration among production teams, maximising the usage of talent and equipment resources from anywhere in the world. ImPulseV, Calrec’s virtualised DSP core in a cloud-native AWS environment delivers the same high-quality audio processing and full broadcast feature set as its hardware counterpart, enabling broadcasters to scale operations globally without physical infrastructure.

Sid Stanley, managing director at Calrec, commented: “Sports broadcasters have embraced new dynamic ways of working, flexing production resources and deploying agile technologies that align with the scale and needs of each production. Our unique relationship with our customers and our adaptability to working well with other manufacturers has enabled us to help broadcasters define and embrace new creative ways of working. Blending on-premise infrastructure with remote and cloud-based operations, we are committed to helping broadcasters meet today’s economic and creative demands.”

He added: “The future of live sports broadcasting is not a one-size fits all solution; it is determined entirely by production needs and budget. Whether it is to increase output, reduce costs or extend reach, Calrec has it covered and organisations like SVG Europe play a vital role in this ecosystem. SVG Europe enables us to stay connected with the industry, observe and map future trends, share insights, and engage in conversations that shape the future of sports broadcasting. Most importantly, our customers value the organisation, and they enable us to drive and be part of conversations that matter which is essential.”
