Canford highlights audio, video cables at IBC2012

UK distributor and manufacturer Canford is showing a variety of new products at IBC2012 this week. Notable among them are audio and video cables that were installed in a number of venues for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, including the main Olympic Stadium and Velodrome, used for both Games, and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, which hosted matches during the summer events’ football tournament.

Among Canford’s HD video cables that have gone into the stadia are the SDV-HD-LFH and its low-loss version, the SDV-L-LFH. These are on the Canford stand (9.C01), along with the recently introduced SDV-X (standard) and SDV-L-X (low-loss) cables, which are getting their first showing at IBC. Both conform to SMPTE 292M and SMPTE 424M, but Canford sees them as offering benefits beyond standard SDV cables.

The company also provided the audio multicores for most the London 2012 venues. These are based on the D’n’A range, which has single audio cables capable of carrying either analogue or AES digital audio signals. Introduced approximately 18 months ago, these are available as Low Fire Hazard (LFH) models, with reduced smoke emission and no toxic halogens in the gaseous products.

Among D’n’A cables specified for the Games are FSM (Foil Screened Multipair), the FST (Foil Screened Twin) and the FSJ (Foil Screened individually Jacketed). Variants of these were also used: single and two-, four-, eight-, 12-, and 16-pair, as well as 1.5km of the LFH version of Canford´s MCS 4 core loudspeaker cable. All Canford-brand cables are designed by Director of Strategy Iain Elliott and manufactured on an OEM basis by Draka.

Also during the show, Canford agreed to a new supply partnership with AFP (Advanced Fiber Products), which produces active and passive fibre-optic products.

Among other product releases are new preconfigured racks and enclosures from Canford´s Enclosure Systems brand. The company´s famous and compendious catalogue is shown in electronic form, which reproduces the print original but offers online ordering and features, such as recognition of customer discounts.
