Canon cameras capture acclaimed Formula 1 movie

Canon’s EOS C300 cameras have been used to capture a range of exhilarating action scenes in Ron Howard’s new Formula 1 film, Rush, which tracks the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda. The team used the EOS C300 as the handheld camera on the production “because of the efficiency, the size, and the flexibility of the equipment.”

Director Ron Howard comments: “We were even more aggressive and ambitious and experimental about tucking the camera away or going handheld with a longer lens from an off-position and using it as a way to capture something unexpected. In two very significant ways, it was very, very different. The hand-held shots were sometimes close-ups, creating an intimacy. The other shots were grabbing the unexpected visual possibilities of a scene. It became a great tool on both fronts.”

To celebrate the film’s release, Canon UK is offering anyone who purchases an eligible Canon camcorder product between 15th August and 10th October 2013 the chance to win a host of amazing Rush-themed prizes including a driving experience weekend at Brands Hatch race track or weekend tickets to a major UK race event.
