With more than 4,350 athletes from over 160 countries competing across 22 different sports at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, British broadcaster Channel 4, supported by global sport media services company deltatre, is there capturing it for all to enjoy.

To build on their success of the 2012 Paralympic Games and 2014 Winter Games, Channel 4 again commissioned deltatre to help bring sports fans the ultimate digital coverage of the Games. The broadcaster’s #YesICan promotion kick started the excitement of the Games, and has already been viewed more than 31 million times on Facebook alone.

deltatre’s team of developers, operators, video editors, journalists, social media editors and live bloggers are complemented by LiveWire Sports. Based across Rio and its Wimbledon office, the team look after all social media channels including Snapchat and Instagram, as well as the new website, where every single feed produced is being streamed live.

paralympics.channel4.com was launched at the end of August and is powered by deltatre’s sport responsive website solution, Forge, built to cope with the large volumes of traffic. The website features an array of real time results, schedules, athlete bios and live videos. The Diva video player, with its interactive and innovative timeline, acquires, encodes and streams 10 concurrent live streams; the equivalent of nearly 700 hours of coverage.

James Rutherford, Commissioning Editor Sport, Off-Peak & Multiplatform at Channel 4 said: “Channel 4 could not be more proud to be the official broadcaster once again. Our continued work with deltatre means they truly understand our passion and vision for the Paralympics, and help us convey this across all our digital output”.

Speaking about the collaboration Moe Hamdhaidari, Head of Online at deltatre UK said “It is always an absolute pleasure to work with Channel 4, helping to galvanise their innovative and forward-thinking ideas across multiple digital platforms. We feel privileged to be a part of such a special project as the Paralympics, and seeing all the hard work from the teams here and Channel 4 come to life, while watching incredible feats of human strength, is an amazing moment”.
