Clear-Com exhibiting ‘straightforward’, easy-to-use LQ series

NAB 2015 sees one of the first global showcases for Clear-Com’s LQ series of connectivity devices since the range commenced shipping last December. Based on Clear-Com’s patented I.V.-Core technology, LQ comprises a family of products for linking intercom and audio systems over LAN, WAN or IP networks.

The low latency audio CODEC OPUS is integral to the system in that it provides a range of different settings to deliver high quality audio on the available network bandwidth.

“The LQ boxes provide a really straightforward way for intercom users to extend their existing systems to single or multiple remote locations using their IT infrastructures. First shown at IBC and now shipping, these devices have been attracting a lot attention here at NAB,” Clear-Com director of product management Simon Browne tells SVG Europe.

LQ can also interface between different intercom systems routing both call signalling and audio over LAN, WAN or Internet IP connections: 2-wire partyline with other OEM partyline systems, 2-wire with 4-wire devices, and 4-wire with 4-wire systems. A maximum of six LQ Series interfaces can be linked together to form a managed network.

Clear-Com is also highlighting the latest developments pertaining to its FreeSpeak II distributed wireless solution. DECT-based incarnations operating in multiple worldwide license-free frequency bands were introduced last autumn; now users can take advantage of versions able to operate in the 2.4 GHz band.

“This [new operability] is geared towards countries like the US where you cannot necessarily get the DECT bandwidth [required],” says Browne. A combination of DECT and 2.4 GHz operation is possible – for example, 10 DECT beltpacks and ten working in 2.4GHz “to give the option of using beltpacks in total”.

IP65-rated water and dust resistance and a battery life of up to 10 hours are among the other highlighted features of the FreeSpeak II offering.

“We’ve seen a lot of interest in the FreeSpeak II products this week, particulalry from rental houses based in the LA area,” concludes Browne, who lists sports production and live events among the target applications for the range.
