Custom Consoles has announced the completion of a new lighting control desk and Media Wall monitor displays for the Elstree studios of BBC Studios and Post Production (BBC S&PP). “The new desk is based on Custom Consoles’ standard Module-R series, tailored to accommodate production camera control units plus auxiliary equipment panels,” comments Geoff Ward, operations manager for BBC S&PP.

“Housed in the lighting and vision control room, the desk is designed for simultaneous use by two operators,” adds Custom Consoles’ sales manager, Gary Fuller. “It faces a 2.5 metre wide Media Wall which supports two 55-inch curved high-definition OLED display screens, each of which is being used as a four by two arrays of high-definition monitors.

“Three individual Sony OLED high-definition picture monitors extend forwards from the Media Wall on Ergotron heavy-duty articulated mounts. A fourth HD OLED is located at the top right of the desk itself. A free-standing lighting control panel is positioned at the left end of the desk adjacent to a supplementary desk with matching oak finish and grey Marmoleum worksurfaces.

“The second of the two new Media Walls is located in the adjacent production control room where it replaces an earlier-generation CRT display array.”

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Custom Consoles Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. It can be used as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to the studio wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that their edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. All wiring is fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point. Media Wall is available in a silver-anodised or black-powder coated finish and in any specified element widths.
