DELTACAST Highlights Analysis-Graphics Upgrade in Offerings at IBC

At IBC2012, Belgian manufacturer DELTACAST is launching a range of products, with the focus on the latest upgrade to the DELTA-highlight analysis graphics system. Now in version 7.3, it was used by three broadcasters during Euro 2012, including German regional service ARD, which also uses it on the weekly Bundesliga programme Sportschau.

DELTA-highlight now features a player-tracking mechanism, allowing the operator to follow a particular player, and an interface for tablet computers and for touchscreen controllers. The system has proved popular with broadcasters covering rugby and football — both the soccer and American varieties — but DELTA-highlight is also aimed at other sports. “It can be used for games played inside or around a rectangular area with a known size, such as tennis, golf, baseball, field hockey, and ice hockey,” says Director of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Marco Pezzin.

Variations on the user interface were specific requests from broadcasters covering Euro 2012, with Chinese state service BTV asking for a touchscreen and Belgian station RTBF preferring tablets. RTBF is also using DELTA-highlight for broadcasts of Jupiler Pro League football in Belgium and features it on Champions League coverage. In Germany, it is part of WDR’s production for the Bundesliga.

For future upgrades of DELTA-highlight, Pezzin says, DELTACAST is looking at connectivity with media servers, primarily EVS and Grass Valley, in addition to file-based workflows.

Other introductions from DELTACAST for this year include the DELTA-hd-elp-d 44 compact card for 2K, with capability for 4K, featuring four HD-SDI inputs and four HD-SDI outputs; the DELTA-3G range, with 10 3G SDI PCI Express video cards; and the dMOSAIC free app for cross-platform monitoring of multiple video and audio feeds.
