DPP/AMWA certifies Avid for compliance with new media delivery standards

Avid media Composer | Software and a new release of the Avid Media Access (AMA) AS-11 plug-in form the first professional nonlinear editing solution to receive certification as part of the UK-based Digital Production Partnership’s and Advanced Media Workflow Association’s new compliance programs. These certifications signify that broadcasters and post production facilities using this Avid Everywhere approach incorporate industry accepted best practices to streamline media management and maximise efficiency when delivering content across multiple platforms for UK broadcasters.

The new file-based delivery specification, AS-11 DPP, is a subset of the AMWA Application Specification AS-11 and has been written to satisfy the needs of UK broadcasters for the delivery of finished programmes. The Digital Production Partnership (DPP), comprising the BBC, Channel Four and ITV, and with the support of BSkyB and BT Sport, developed the DPP subset of AS-11 to enable UK broadcasters to receive files from production and post production companies in a consistent format.

Previously, each broadcaster had their own set of specifications for file- and tape-based deliverables, resulting in multiple and inefficient delivery workflows. AS-11 DPP delivery came into effect in the UK from October 2014.

Avid Media Composer | Software (version 7.0.4.1 onwards) along with the latest AMA AS-11 plugin (version 1.0.3) have been specifically developed to make exported files from Media Composer conform to the new specification. This enables editors to include relevant programme metadata in a digital file, ensuring the descriptive program metadata travels with the file all the way through the post production workflow to final broadcast transmission. It also enables a season’s worth of episodes to be tagged quickly and easily, boosting media management efficiencies for broadcasters and post production facilities.

Tom Cordiner, vice president, international sales at Avid said, “Avid is committed to reducing the cost and complexity associated with disparate media formats. We worked closely with the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) while the AS-11 spec was being created, and now we’re ensuring the seamless delivery of AS-11 DPP files from Media Composer | Software to UK broadcasters.”
