DTS to demo high-quality audio for IPTV services

DTS hits IBC with a demo of its audio technology being applied to IPTV systems. The company says show attendees will experience DTS high-quality sound emitted over myriad broadcast networks that leverage recent developments with DTS partners: Ateme, Ericsson, Free, Intel and ST Microelectronics. Demonstrations of DTS’ unique, immersive surround sound technology will be featured in the listening room at stand 2.B50.

“As the broadcast landscape evolves, DTS continues to expand its footprint in the growing connected ecosystem by offering consumers the best audio experience possible, regardless of delivery platform,” sys Ted Laverty, business development director at DTS. “Audiences expect that high-definition picture will be accompanied by high-definition sound, and DTS forged strategic industry partnerships to deliver exciting and satisfying sound quality to the market across four screens—television, computer, car and mobile device.”

At IBC2011, DTS will highlight the broad scope of choices at consumers’ fingertips, showcasing how IPTV content subscribers can create the optimal entertainment experience by selecting DTS-empowered services and channels. For example, IPTV service operators such as FTO and Free rely on DTS Digital Surround processing to offer viewers a fuller, more realistic home audio experience.

In addition, Ateme products, such as the Kyrion encoder/transcoder, will integrate both DTS 5.1 and Neural Surround Sound technologies for imminent implementation, according to a recently signed license agreement. Ateme encodes the source material from the content owner and puts it into a usable format for broadcast.

Also network distribution hardware from Ericsson boasts DTS 5.1 integration to broadcast head-end, sending the encoded content through a signal to the network/set-top box

Lastly, Intel and ST Microelectronics chipsets with DTS technology accelerate the audio processing within the set-top box.

Leonard Lloyd, managing director and regional vice president of DTS, added, “Working with partner companies to bring all the elements together, DTS supports the full workflow from content creation to play-out. The resulting streamlined solution presents a compelling opportunity for today’s broadcasters and content providers to own the home entertainment space by providing IPTV services with the highest quality of audio available.”
