Edgeware showcases UHD, live sports delivery solutions

At this week’s TV Connect exhibition in London, Edgeware displayed its Video Consolidation Platform (VCP) that provides operators and service providers with a single, consolidated platform that dramatically reduces the high infrastructure costs associated with the delivery of TV and video services to both set-top boxes (STBs) and multiscreen devices.

By enabling operators to efficiently deliver new and current services at massive scale to all device types, without having to manage duplicate, siloed delivery networks, Edgeware’s VCP reduces capex by at least 50 percent.

More specifically, Edgeware also demonstrated the following use cases for its VCP:

– 4K Ultra HD (UHD) Cloud DVR: enabling operators to meet subscribers’ needs to pause, restart and record UHD TV in the cloud. The Edgeware VCP enables recording hundreds of live 4K UHD channels in the network for instant on-demand viewing including delivery of fast forward and rewind trick-play modes on the fly without the need to store large additional files. Recordings can be viewed on STBs or any other multiscreen devices in the home or on the move.

– Ultra-low Latency Over-the-top (OTT) for Sports: subscribers can avoid missing the action with instant conversion from sports broadcast to OTT streams

The Edgeware VCP has built-in, ultra-low latency repackaging of live transcodes for delivery to mobile devices with millisecond latency from the live point. With support for HLS, HSS and DASH clients, the VCP can even avoid caching latency by repackaging on the content delivery network (CDN) edge servers.

– Edgeware also displayed a preview of a new version of its Convoy management software, which includes a 360 Analytics module. This enables operators to easily analyse how the network is performing, how the service is delivered to each subscriber as well as how and on what devices content is consumed. Data is presented as interactive charts, which are easily filtered and exported.
