Elemental Technologies announces fresh progress on HEVC, H.265
Encoding, decoding and transcoding specialist Elemental Technologies moved through a number of significant announcements at lightning-quick speed during a media event held in London last Friday (28 June). Of particular interest to broadcast professionals will be the news that Elemental has now advanced its HEVC software codec implementation to support 4K/H.265.
The news comes a mere two months after Elemental debuted its 4K H.264 support at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas.
Elemental Technologies’ VP of marketing, Keith Wymbs, also announced further progress with regard to 1080P HEVC. At NAB, the company demonstrated live processing of 1080P HEVC at 3.2 mbps. Last week, it revealed that its technology had since evolved to enable 1080P HEVC at below 2.8 mbps.
“We believe we are innovating faster than anyone in the industry and have made HEVC available to any customer that wants to license it,” says Wymbs. “Elemental’s ownership of its core software and unique parallel parallel processing-based approach yields significant performance advantages – ahead of others.”
Wymbs also revealed that European cable infrastructure company Teleste has picked Elemental to power its Optimo OTT solution. Optimo is billed as a complete multi-screen solution for mananging and distributing TV channels, and interactive services on DVB, IPTV and OTT networks.
Finally – and following on from its introduction at NAB – the Elemental Cloud Platform as a Service (Paas) is continuing to grow in global stature, with deployment on three continents.
