EMG continues its longstanding sponsorship and support of SVG Europe Women

At SVG Europe Women at Lord’s 2019, Heather McLean speaks with Jennie Blackmore, Sky Sports production executive, Angela Gibbons, EMG UK head of sales, and Aoife Murphy, then England and Wales Cricket Board broadcast and media operations manager, on the panel titled, The sticky wicket of women’s cricket: Inside summer 2019 women’s cricket broadcasting

Today on International Women’s Day 2022, EMG Group has announced that it is extending its sponsorship of the landmark broadcast industry initiative SVG Europe Women. EMG is focused on promoting diversity and inclusion in the broadcast space, and feels this crucial issue requires investment in advocacy groups that work towards this goal.

Angela Gibbons, EMG UK head of sales, sits on the SVG Europe Women Advisory Board. She comments: “The industry has made a lot of progress when it comes to diversity and inclusion. There are more women working behind the camera, in front of the camera and as industry executives than ever before.

“However, there is still a long way to go and it’s very important we recognise the role of organisations such as SVG Europe Women play in promoting gender diversity and levelling the playing field for women.”

EMG has supported SVG Women for the past several years, with the initial partnership beginning with EMG UK and expanding across EMG’s European business.

“Diversity and sustainability are top of my agenda at EMG,” says Shaun Gregory, CEO at EMG. “We’ll continue to work with a number of key organisations, like SVG Europe Women, to further our aims of raising awareness of hugely important topics. Championing the achievements of women in broadcasting is a great example of just that, and we feel privileged to play our part.”
EMG and SVG Europe Women will work together on joint events and initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion in sports broadcasting.

Heather McLean, editor at SVG Europe and head of SVG Europe Women, commented: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of EMG in what we are working to achieve at SVG Europe Women. Our goal is to bring people in sports broadcasting that have historically been underrepresented together, to create role models and to inspire and educate, and ultimately to increase diversity and inclusion in this exciting industry. I am looking forward to working with EMG over the next year.”

The next SVG Women event will take place at The Poetry Club in Glasgow on Thursday 31 March at 6.30pm. The inaugural SVG Europe Women Scotland event is its first in-person women’s community event for two years and will focus on ‘Exploring the Scottish Skills Shortage’.

SVG Europe Women is a unique network of women in sports media who are able to call upon one another for ideas, support, help and advice. SVG Europe Women is made up of members from across TV sports broadcasting, within production, distribution, technology, and related areas. The community has grown exponentially since 2018 and is supported by an Advisory Board of experienced, successful women from a wide variety of roles within sports broadcast, each of whom take an active role and interest in furthering the careers of women in the industry.

SVG Europe Women holds regular events for its community throughout Europe, both physical and through SVG Europe Women Virtual. These events are designed to provide information, education, awareness and networking opportunities, increasing the discussion around women in sports broadcasting, and helping to make change.
