Endemol names Medina head of The Football League Media Rights

English soccer’s second-tier Football League has appointed Alfonso Medina to the position of head of media rights.

Medina was previously director of sales, sports rights at Endemol International in London.

Richard Heaselgrave, the chief commercial officer of the Football League,  said: “I’m delighted to welcome Alfonso to The Football League.  His international experience of sports broadcasting, including production and programming, will be a huge asset as we enter an important era in the sports rights market.”

The Football League said: “Medina has also worked for the International Tennis Federation and ESPN and has experience in the sales and distribution of audiovisual rights in to a wide variety of properties including UEFA Europa League, Major League Soccer, Dublin Super Cup, National Hockey League, NASCAR, International Rugby Board, Major League Baseball and the Davis Cup.”

The league’s properties include England’s three professional soccer divisions below the top-tier Premier League and the Capital One Cup, the annual knockout competition in which Premier League clubs also compete.

Endemol, the Dutch television production giant, restructured its sports business earlier this year in a move that led to what it described as “a small number of redundancies” at Endemol Sport, its former standalone sports division in London.

Gregg Oldfield and Lawrence Duffy, Endemol Sport’s two managing directors, left Endemol, as responsibility for sport was handed over as appropriate to the company’s various offices around the world.
