Envivio video solutions deployed for new 4K HEVC streaming trial
Chunghwa Telecom – the leading telecommunications operator in Taiwan, serving more than 30 million broadband, mobile and fixed line subscribers – has selected Envivio video solutions for its new 4K HEVC streaming service trial.
For the trial, Envivio is using its Muse Ultra HD software to support two modes of 4K HEVC delivery to a wide range of devices for Chunghwa Telecom: VOD content delivered via unicast transfer method, and NVOD through multicast to HwaCom set-top boxes.
Envivio’s Muse Ultra HD software is designed to encode either one 4Kp60 (progressive video at 60 frames per second) or two simultaneous 4Kp30 (30 frames per second) video signals in HEVC format using the Envivio G5 server. These services can be delivered to Ultra HD-capable devices, including the latest generation of set-top boxes and Ultra HD TV sets.
“We chose Envivio as our video solutions provider based on its extensive expertise as pioneers in video processing and delivery software, as well as their support of next-generation formats and standards like 4K and HEVC,” said a Chunghwa Telecom executive. “Leveraging the HEVC standard, Envivio is able to efficiently compress 4K content without losing video quality, making it easier and more affordable for us to deliver the highest quality video available to our consumers.”
Hwacom VP Alex Huang commented: “Chunghwa Telecom and Envivio are both Hwacom’s strategic partners. In addition to this successful 4K/HEVC trial deployment, Hwacom delivered many Envivio OTT systems to Chunghwa Telecom to support its OTT business. Envivio’s exceptional product quality and support capability have helped both Hwacom and Chunghwa to solidify their OTT position in Taiwan. We look forward to working with both partners in the future.”
“We are pleased to support Chunghwa Telecom with the latest in 4K/ HEVC encoding technology for its innovative live streaming service trial. Such cutting-edge efforts will prove to the industry the efficiencies and cost-savings of HEVC for operators worldwide,” said Envivio’s VP sales APAC region Carl Hurd.
