Ericsson to help US ski fans experience Nordic World Ski Championships on the go

For the first time ever, live broadcast coverage of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be available on mobile devices in the US thanks to Ericsson’s Networked Event system, Service Enablement Platform, and Mediaroom Reach TV Anywhere solutions.

“The Ericsson Networked Event has been developed during 2014 to be showcased at the 2015 FIS World Ski Championships in Falun,” says Ceceilia Atterwall, Ericsson, head of strategy, marketing, and communications. “The platform should be attractive for reuse at other events around the world not only because of the features and business possibilities it enables, but also because of the way it engages stakeholders.”

The Ericsson Networked Event collects all of the data feeds associated with an event, like previous winners, world records, historic data, interesting footage, real-time race positions and live-TV feeds. This complete picture is then exported by the platform as a set of application programming interfaces (APIs), providing solution builders with premium content. Approved third party developers can access the APIs created by the Ericsson Networked Event in order to create immersive digital experiences.

“The Service Enablement platform holds the metadata for the live and on-demand assets so it acts as a lightweight content management system,” adds Atterwall. “The strength is that it is a multi-service platform with application programming interfaces (API) exposure, software containers, and so on, that enable it to handle the other services that are embedded in the 3-D app experience.”

Live streaming coverage will be accessible via the Live Arena Falun2015 app, which was developed by Tension Graphics and is enabled by APIs provided by Ericsson, as well as the U.S. Ski Team’s website.

This year’s championships take place in Falun, Sweden, from February 18 to March 1. Through two different apps, fans and followers of the championships will get detailed information and a better experience of all competitions.
