Euro Media Group strengthens management structure in UK with new board

Euro Media Group (EMG), the European provider of broadcast facilities and services, has strengthened its presence in the UK with the formation of a new board consisting of chairman Barry Johnstone, chief executive Peter Bates and chief financial officer Andy Maries.

EMG in the UK is represented by four companies; Aerial Camera Systems (ACS), Broadcast RF, CTV Outside Broadcasts and Telegenic. While operational integration between these companies has been ongoing over the past few years, there has been no formal overarching management structure to EMG UK.

Building on core values of delivery, innovation and excellence, this represents an important strategic move by EMG, as the group is on a mission to better integrate their services in order to strengthen its operational capabilities across all of its markets and towards its clients.

“The UK is for our group a key market and a market in which our clients very actively push technology and innovation. By integrating the non-commercial aspects of ACS, BRF, CTV and Telegenic, we want to further strengthen our position and draw on the wealth of talent that exists across all four companies,” said Patrick van den Berg, co-CEO of EMG.

EMG UK’s CEO, Bates added: “This is an exciting and unique opportunity to become part of a team that will combine the talents and resources of all four EMG UK companies and build an operation that will position us as leaders in the UK OB market. The world of outside broadcasting is evolving more rapidly than ever, and innovation together with an agile and flexible approach will be key to embracing the changes ahead.”

Johnstone co-founded CTV in 1980. He also served as COO of Euro Media Group between 2007 and 2010 and as international director between 2010 and 2019 prior to becoming chairman of EMG UK.

Bates joined Telegenic in 1985 as a runner and one of only seven staff at the time. He went on to establish himself as an OB editor before becoming CEO in 2004, having joined with Terry James to complete a management buyout of Telegenic’s founders. Along with James, Bates has steered the company’s progression, establishing Telegenic as front runners at every significant technological milestone over the past sixteen years, from HD, through 3D and most recently UHD.

Maries has over thirty years experience in finance within the UK television facilities industry. He joined CTV as finance director in 2005 prior to its acquisition by UBF later that year. He has been UK CFO for EMG since CTV’s acquisition of Aerial Camera Systems in 2010.
