EVS News enlisted for EBU newsgathering, distribution platform
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has engaged the services of EVS News as one of the key systems providers to its round-the-clock Eurovision News Exchange, the leading news gathering and distribution platform for EBU Member broadcasters. The EBU operates EURORADIO and EUROVISION, the media industry’s premier producer and distributor of live sports, news and entertainment content.
The Eurovision News Exchange needed a fast and reliable news solution to meet the demands of a fast-paced media landscape and chose EVS News to deliver a centralised ingest platform based on its XS media server and IPDirector production asset management suite.
EVS News deployed four of its XS media servers for instant playout and multiple feed ingest, allowing up to 12 feeds to be simultaneously recorded. EVS’ IPDirector suite will enable production staff to view recorded content, create and manage playlists, track and transfer files as well as control recordings on the XS servers using the Ingest Scheduler tool. The EBU also benefits from the IPDirector’s IPLogger module, which enables the creation of descriptive metadata for video footage recorded on the XS servers, facilitating the search and retrieval of media content; as well as EVS’ Xedio CleanEdit news editor, which allows on-the-fly non-linear editing of news footage and voice-over recordings to produce news bulletins.

The new infrastructure is undergoing newsroom testing and will be operational by the end of the year.
