EVS to move into UHD production at IBC with new XT4K and XS4K servers

At IBC EVS will take the wraps off the much anticipated XT4K and XS4K UHD servers which are set to provide a practical means of producing 4K and HD content in the live production environment. The XT4K is a 4K production and replay server which uses uncompressed 12G SDI in and output ports and integrated IP I/O options to deliver new ways to design production facilities’ infrastructures.

The new UHD server will offer users the capability to grow with future engine software updates enabling more flexible UHD/HD configurations through increased channel density options.
The XT4K gives users up to four channels of 4K or 8 channels of HD and unleashes HDR-enabled live content through its native 10-bit codec of XAVC-4K. Flexible use of the XT4K’s SDI and IP connections allow operators to use the server within native-IP, traditional SDI or hybrid workflows. The XT4K has also been built to support today’s and tomorrow’s emerging SuperMotion cameras, as well as support for the common native codecs that provide speed and flexibility.

Based on the same signature loop recording as all of EVS’ live production servers, the XT4K has the capacity to record over 130 hours of 4K-UHD content with the same speed and functionality of existing LSM highlights and replay production systems. Engaging audiences with higher quality images that let broadcasters tell better stories has never been easier.

Optimised to enable a smart transition to an IP-connected studio environment, the XS4K is built with hybrid SDI/IP technology. The server is built with a flexible four channel 4K and 8 channel HD configuration which enables ingest & playout multiformat content within studio operations.
EVS’ XS4K is available in Quad-SDI or 12G-SDI setups, while a new on-board XIP option allows simple integration to the native-IP workflows of tomorrow’s production infrastructure.

Also based on EVS’ loop recording, the new server supports the XAVC codec for 4K and will support AVC-Intra, DNxHD and ProRes codecs for HD workflows. By enabling simple media exchange with post production workflows, the XS4K is the perfect fit within a permanent studio production environment.

Laurent Petit, VP product at EVS said: “being able to produce 4K content is no longer a novelty – it’s something our customers and partners need to do to deliver audiences what they want. The XT4K and XS4K have been designed so that investments will be protected. As users continue to grow and produce more content, so do these new servers. Today’s infrastructures increasingly need to cope with faster, more efficient production and the XT4K and XS4K servers deliver speed and reliability even in the newest resolutions and growing formats.”

The XT4K and XS4K will be presented at EVS’ IBC2016 press conference at 4pm on Thursday 8 September in room D507 of the Elicium Centre, RAI Amsterdam. The servers will then both be on display on the EVS stand throughout the show.
