FanDuel to become first in US to offer live streaming of matches within its betting app

FanDuel Group appears set to become the first US sports betting service to offer video streaming of live sporting events within a sports betting app. In an extension of its partnership with Sportradar, the global provider of sports data and content, FanDuel is taking the unique first step of marrying live video and betting odds in an active digital wagering environment, its FanDuel Sportsbook app. The initial roll out will be available in New Jersey and will feature live soccer and tennis matches from select competitions.

“The ability to live stream professional sports inside our sports betting product will provide our customers with a first class betting experience,” Niall Connell, general manager, FanDuel Sportsbook said in a release. “By making Sportradar’s Live Channel Online available alongside our betting markets, FanDuel Sportsbook continues to be the premier sports destination in the ever-growing sports betting industry.”

The announcement comes in the wake of a successful trial of live streaming a major tennis tournament in the FanDuel Sportsbook app. This latest, public rollout will include more video content from tennis while also adding European soccer to the mix via Sportradar’s Live Channel Online.

Live streaming within a sports betting app is not uncommon in other parts of the world, but this does mark a first-of-its-kind experience for the US market.

“We are really excited to bring live streaming to the US market with FanDuel,” Neale Deeley, VP of US sales and gaming, Sportradar said in a release on Tuesday. “We have been longstanding partners of both FanDuel and parent company PaddyPower Betfair across a wide range of betting and fantasy services. We’re proud to be an ongoing part of their US expansion plans.”

According to the release, Sportradar’s Live Channel will be included directly into the FanDuel Sportsbook interface, incorporating live events with betting lines and data, now with the added functionality of being able to place a live wager on the event the user is watching.
