FIFA and EBU extend ‘Other FIFA Events’ cooperation until 2022

FIFA and the EBU have extended their long-standing collaboration on all ‘Other FIFA Events’. The new agreement will cover the broadcasting of 13 FIFA events in 38 territories over the next four years.

This includes next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 in France as well as all other Women’s/Youth FIFA World Cups.

Since 2007, EBU Members have provided extensive coverage of these FIFA national team competitions on all platforms. They will continue to do so in the coming years thanks to a wider scope of rights and significant free-to-air coverage commitment on all platforms.

The much-anticipated FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 will be the first major competition in the new deal and will be widely broadcast to audiences throughout most European territories.

With these events completing the existing EBU/FIFA agreement for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, the EBU and its Members demonstrate, once again, their commitment to premium football events and reaffirm their public service mission to broadcast a diverse range of premium sport events to the widest possible audience.

EBU Head of Football Rights, Pascal Fratellia, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome: “As a continuation of our existing long-term partnership with FIFA, we are very pleased that we have been able to reach – on behalf of our Members – another agreement until 2022 for these exciting football competitions.

“This deal provides FIFA with a strong and reliable free-to-air broadcast commitment from EBU Members and reinforces our ambition and dedication to showcase National Team football events.”

The EBU has agreements with 31 international federations representing 18 sports and disciplines, ensuring that Members can offer their audiences a wide variety of free-to-air sports programming.
