First Grass Valley GV STRATUS in use at Hong Kong news, sports channel

Grass Valley has deployed its first set of GV STRATUS nonlinear media production tools to the Hong Kong region at OneTV, a new 24/7 television station that delivers news, sports and entertainment to millions of viewers across Hong Kong.

The station is also leveraging the capabilities of Grass Valley’s EDIUS Elite multiformat nonlinear editing software, K2 Summit 3G Production Client, and K2 SAN storage.

Compatible with the Media Object Server (MOS) protocol, which allows it to interface with and take programming instructions from most newsroom computer systems, GV STRATUS gives OneTV the ability to integrate with its archive systems, removable file ingest via the user interface for file-based camera files and with full end-to-end HD support. GV STRATUS and the K2 media server and storage platform employ several open standards to offer OneTV an expandable foundation for new applications and workflows. GV STRATUS also combines with EDIUS to offer powerful and seamless real-time editing functionality.

“Running a TV station 24/7 is a paramount task and when news breaks in Hong Kong, we needed a tool that enables us to quickly turnaround new content production, deliver it first, and across multiple platforms,” says Lo Wing Fai, Oliver, president of OneTV. “We opted for a solution from Grass Valley that will help facilitate a ‘create once, publish everywhere’ consolidated workflow. Now, we can take advantage of a seamless work environment that gives us control over the entire spectrum of our content creation and distribution lifecycle.”

“We’re excited to be part of the thriving newsroom market in Hong Kong,” says Stephen Wong, senior vice-president, APAC, Grass Valley. “Whether it’s a brand new news channel or one with lengthy on-air presence, Grass Valley newsroom solutions are designed to empower news channels to do what they do best — get on air fast and by providing them with a holistic set of powerful production tools.”
