Football Summit 2019: AR session to showcase World Cup, Premier League and Bundesliga

BBC Sport, Sky Germany and Sky Sports confirmed for augmented reality session

Augmented Reality (AR) graphics created for coverage of the FIFA World Cup, the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga will be showcased at SVG Europe’s Football Summit which is taking place on 28 February in Paris.

In a session called ‘Football Graphics Showcase: How to create show-stopping AR’, representatives of BBC Sport, Sky Germany and Sky Sports will discuss their AR graphics output, explaining how and why they do it, sharing best practice and demonstrating their work.

BBC Sport’s World Cup presentation studio, which included various AR elements, won an SVG Europe Sport Production Award in 2018 while Sky Germany has pioneered AR on the Bundesliga, both pitch-side and in the studio.

Sky Sports makes great use of AR on its Monday Night Football programme and via a mobile AR set-up that it uses for live Premier League matches.

The confirmed speakers so far are BBC Sport creative director, Motion John Murphy, Sky Germany vice president of sports production Alessandro Reitano and Sky Sports innovation manager Mike Ruddell.

The SVG Europe Football Summit 2019 will also feature a session on preparations for the upcoming Women’s Football World Cup in France, a Match Directing Masterclass and insight into the use of remote production and artificial intelligence within football coverage.
