Formalising efforts: High Viz Media focuses on sustainability efforts as part of wider cultural transformation

2025 is proving to be a pivotal year for High Viz Media. Determined to play its part in shaping a more sustainable broadcast future, the company is moving beyond ad hoc green efforts to formalise sustainability beyond policy and into a broader cultural transformation.
Earlier this year, High Viz partnered with NxtGEN Broadcast Power Solutions on a high-profile motorsport production. By deploying a 25kW battery-powered generator system, the team powered its OB trucks for eight hours at full load, reducing carbon output without compromising performance. The event demonstrated the company’s ability to integrate sustainable technology into live environments.
High Viz Media also previewed its Outside Broadcast Trailer at MPTS this year which acts as an ‘OB flyaway system on wheels’. Demonstrating its commitment to lowering carbon emissions, the trailer can be delivered on an electric vehicle but give the creature comforts of a larger OB.
Building an ESG-aligned framework
As part of its 2025 Transformation Agenda, High Viz Media is also developing an ESG-aligned production framework designed to embed environmental and social responsibility into projects.
Key pillars of the framework include:
- Sustainable production practices: High Viz has begun the foundational work on integrating a carbon calculator into planning and delivery workflows to measure and reduce carbon impact. Low-carbon transport, digital-first delivery and local crew hiring are now standard practice. Catering is reviewed with a focus on reducing waste and minimising meat content.
- Battery power innovation: Alongside the 25kW generator, the company has invested in two 5kWh solar-compatible battery generators for cameras and flypacks, fully replacing petrol units.
- Circularity and repair: The company prioritises in-house repairs and staff training for common fixes such as cable work, alongside R&D into how retired equipment can be repurposed rather than discarded.
- Training and supply chain ethics: Staff are embarking on training in climate-conscious production.
- Diversity and inclusion: A Real Living Wage employer, High Viz is also moving towards formalised codes of conduct, safeguarding and inclusive hiring policies. A Disability Inclusion Strategy is set to launch, following the successful delivery of a deaf dating show that showcased accessible production technologies.
From policy to practice
For High Viz Media, sustainability is not symbolic, it is operational. Every workflow and production is an opportunity to reduce climate impact while increasing social value.
“Gaming taught us to be agile and resourceful,” says Nick Collier, owner of High Viz Media. “Now, as we take on larger broadcast opportunities, we want those same qualities to drive meaningful change in how productions are delivered. Small companies can lead by example.”
