French Football League to use Ooyala platform for new OTT service

France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has signed up to use Ooyala’s Flex Media Platform as part of the content management and delivery workflow for a planned new OTT service.

The Flex Media Platform will manage metadata and video assets across LFP’s operations, help optimise workflows using automation and streamline the delivery of content to platforms and viewers.

Details on the OTT service itself are currently sketchy but it has been widely reported that the LFP is undergoing a digital transformation project with Microsoft that includes an OTT offering.

The Ooyala deal grew out of this collaboration with Microsoft.

Jonathan Huberman, chief executive of Ooyala, discussing the tie-up said: “LFP’s ambitions to distribute their video content not only throughout France but also globally, required an entirely new platform and the right partners to supplement their own staff.

“LFP is playing on a new level, and they’ll need the flexibility and functionality of the Ooyala Flex Media Platform to get their content on every device, platform and in every language to reach their growing legion of fans worldwide.”

Olivier Imbert, chief information officer at the LFP, added: “To launch our new video service, we needed a solution that could not only handle our needs today but grow with us into the future,

“The Ooyala Flex Media platform can do just that. It integrates seamlessly with our existing technology and systems, and is highly scalable to address new and more complex workflows as our service expands to reach new viewers across the world.”

LFP is the governing body for France’s major professional football championships. It oversees, organises and manages the top two divisions in France, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, and is also responsible for the country’s 44 professional football clubs as well as its annual cup competition, the French League Cup.
