Front Porch Digital has LYNX effect

Front Porch Digital has unveiled an integrated cloud-based environment for managing assets on a global scale, from any device and any location. This project, known internally as LYNXsm, is the company’s largest R&D investment in more than a decade.

Leveraging the latest cloud and Web services technologies, LYNX will underpin a range of networked and distributed solutions, including a hosted disaster recovery service for existing DIVA customers, a private/hybrid cloud service allowing global media enterprises to centralize critical assets and consolidate operations, and a public cloud service with DIVArchive functionality offered on a SaaS (software as a service) basis. The first of these services is scheduled for launch in Q4 2011, with continuing roll-out during 2012.

“Cloud technology is becoming a global IT standard, with remarkable benefits for almost every kind of business, so we are proud to be the first company in our industry to embrace the cloud for enterprise-scale content storage management,” said Mike Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. “The keys to a successful implementation of cloud-based solutions for CSM are scalability, security, and efficient use of bandwidth, and uniquely we have solutions for each of these under development as part of the LYNX program. Together with the new modular architecture of the DIVArchive platform, the distributed cloud-based services will give Front Porch Digital customers a vastly more agile way of meeting their enterprise-wide workflow and CSM needs in alignment with business goals.”

Due for a Q4 2011 launch, the disaster recovery service offers a hosted, secure DIVArchive infrastructure in the cloud, with an integrated, hosted tape library facility. Ingesting and managing tape content from customers, the service affords an inexpensive off-site backup capability, with the option to update the DR site via automated online replication. New client software offers a dashboard view of stored assets and three restore options that allow secure online “over the wire” on-demand restore (to include transcode to alternate format inline), offline duplicate tape restoration overnight, or offline overnight duplication of an entire tape library.
