FutureSport 2015: More speakers join as programme is finalised for 2 December

Adam Berger from CTV OBs, Opta Sports Head of Rugby Richard Crouch, Jonny Bramley from BBC Sport, Sony’s Mark Grinyer and ITV Sport’s Neil Papworth are the latest speakers to come on board as SVG Europe completes its agenda for FutureSport 2015 at The Kia Oval on Wednesday 2 December.

SVG Europe is very pleased to open the programme with ‘Prepare for Launch: SVG Europe Preview of the Olympic Channel’. Plans for the IOC’s Olympic Channel are continuing to gather pace heading into 2016, with a dedicated team of 100 people expected to be in place and working within a broadcast centre in Madrid (with commercial support in Lausanne) by the end of next year. Sotiris Salamouris, Olympic Broadcasting Services, CTO, will outline plans for content creation, technology platforms and the unique opportunity for Olympic movement stakeholders.

With the marathon of hard work in making the event such an outstanding success now over, we’re delighted that some of the key players will join us for ‘Rugby World Cup 2015: The Year Rugby Really Got Connected’. With more action than ever before enjoyed online and across devices as well as through traditional linear TV, this session delivers insight from key players involved, including Adam Berger, CTV Outside Broadcasts, General Manager; Richard Crouch, Opta Sports, Head of Rugby; and Neil Papworth, ITV Sport, Venue Technical Operations Manager. The session will be moderated by Ian Volans, Volans Consulting, Director.

At trade shows this year one of the hottest technology topics has been High Dynamic Range in the context of Ultra HD television. We’re delighted to present a broad and forward-looking session, ‘HDR: Separating Hype from Reality’, chaired by SVG Europe Contributor Adrian Pennington. Taking part will be Brian Clark, NEP Visions, Commercial and Technical Projects Director; Mark Grinyer, Sony Professional Solutions Europe, Head of Sports Business Development; Mark Horchler, Elemental, Head of Marketing EMEA; and Andy Quested, BBC HD & UHD, Head of Technology.

Following a networking break we look ahead to the big event for next year, ‘Preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio’. Our Editorial Director Ken Kerschbaumer will chair this planning-ahead session with Jonny Bramley, BBC Sports, Executive Producer, Major Events; and Sotiris Salamouris, Olympic Broadcasting Services, Chief Technology Officer.

After that we’re delighted to present ‘Sandbox+: World’s First Live IP TV Studio’. As everyone knows the other ‘hottest topic’ of 2015 is Live IP, and Belgian broadcaster in partnership with the EBU and vendor partners have taken the lead in taking practical steps in this area. Here, led by SVG Europe Contributor George Jarrett, the key participants discuss learning and achievement to date – and the many challenges on the road ahead. The panellists are Wouter De Cuyper, VRT, Technology Architect; Jan Eveleens, Axon, CEO; Marcel Koutstaal, Grass Valley, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Camera Product Group; Felix Krückels, Lawo, Director of Business Development; Felix Poulin, EBU, Senior Project Manager, Networked Media Production; and Johan Vounckx, EVS, SVP Innovation & Technology.

We round out the day with a very special conversation, ‘4K UHD Production Report Card: On the Road with BT Sport. SVG Europe’s Sport Production Summit in September featured an engrossing panel session examining the remarkable story of innovation behind the August launch of Europe’s first 4K channel – BT Sport UHD. In this follow-up, we explore the challenges of taking 4K on the road with the channel’s purpose-built 4K OB truck. We look at the major sports events the truck and production team have covered to date – involving an important series of ground breaking technological innovations along the way. Chief Engineer Andy Beale, Chief Operating Officer Jamie Hindhaugh and Mike Fredriksen, RT Software Commercial Director, join SVG Europe Executive Editor Fergal Ringrose on stage to discuss key 4K issues.
