FutureSport 2017: Nevion’s Rayner to introduce new SMPTE ST 2110 IP standard

SVG Europe is very pleased to announce that Andy Rayner, Chief Technologist at Nevion, will present ‘A Short Introduction to SMPTE ST 2110’ at FutureSport 2017 taking place at The Kia Oval in London on Wednesday November 29.

After months of speculation, IBC 2017 saw the welcome news that SMPTE had achieved approval for the first standards within SMPTE ST 2110, Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks.

This timely session will deep-dive into the specifics of the eagerly-anticipated standards suite – which specifies the carriage, synchronisation and description of separate elementary essence streams over professional IP networks in real-time for live production and playout – and considers its likely short-to-mid-term impact on sports broadcasting as the transition from SDI to IP infrastructures continues to intensify.

Andy Rayner is Chief Technologist at Nevion, directing the strategic and architectural evolution of the company’s media transport, processing, control and virtualisation. He also heads up the Nevion UK technology centre based at Adastral Park, Martlesham Heath.

Nevion provides award-winning media transport solutions to broadcasters, telecom service providers, governmental agencies and other industries. Prior to joining Nevion in 2010, Rayner was head of the Broadcast Solutions team at BT. In this role he was responsible for the design of the BT Global Media Network and oversaw the development of key video interfacing, monitoring and protection technology.

Rayner has filed many patents — both with BT & Nevion. During his time with BT he was awarded the prestigious Martlesham Gold Medal for technical innovation. He is a regular speaker at key global broadcast technology events and conferences.
