Genius Sports delivers augmented, data-driven live broadcasts of King Mindaugas Final Four
Genius Sports has teamed up with the Betsafe-LKL to launch augmented, data-driven live broadcasts of Lithuania’s King Mindaugas Final Four basketball. Airing exclusively on LRT to an audience of over one million fans on 15-16 February, this sponsored broadcast featured dynamic activations for international meat brand Krekenavos as well as official stats metrics.
The partnership follows Betsafe-LKL becoming the first league in European basketball to install Genius Sports’ tracking technology in March 2024. Through this new partnership, official game and player data captured by optical tracking cameras is processed by GeniusIQ, Genius Sports’ data and AI platform, powering insightful stats metrics and brand activations.
By tracking and understanding every play on a basketball court, GeniusIQ automatically knows when and what data to display during the live gaming including player IDs, as well as live shot probabilities, based on the shooter, shooter location on the court, whether it was off the dribble or catch and shoot and nearest defenders. In automatically detecting a successful shot, GeniusIQ will instantly display the Krekenavos logo when the live action is at its most compelling.
This premium new advertising inventory offered Krekenavos the opportunity to showcase its brand as a central part of the Final Four broadcasts and build meaningful connections with highly engaged Betsafe-LKL fans. Genius Sports is powering a new wave of sponsored, themed broadcasts of the Premier League, NFL and NBA for global brands including Verizon, EA Sports and 2K.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to elevate the broadcasts of the Lithuanian Basketball League and provide an even better experience for our fans,” said LKL executive director Justinas Liaudinskas. “By becoming the first basketball league in Europe to implement this Genius Sports technology, we are taking another big step forward.
“Augmented reality enhanced the viewing experience during the Citadele King Mindaugas Cup Final Four, bringing cutting-edge AR solutions to one of the semi-finals and the grand final. This innovation allows our audience to immerse themselves even more in the action on the court.”
“Our partnership with the LKL has already broken new ground through our leading tracking technology and we’re delighted to take this to the next level,” said Jonny Katanchian, head of sports and broadcast at Genius Sports. “LKL fans are being provided with immersive, enhanced live broadcasts including official shot probability metrics while Krekenavos benefits from a new wave of dynamic sports sponsorships that puts them right at the heart of the action.”
