GlobalSportsJobs.com Job of the Week: Head of Communications, British Olympic Association

Every week GlobalSportsJobs.com and SVG Europe join forces to bring you details of a new, much sought-after employment opportunity in sports broadcasting and related disciplines. This week’s position is a full-time role, based in London, as head of communications at the British Olympic Association (BOA).

The BOA’s mission is to transform British lives through the power of the Olympic values and the success of Team GB. The BOA’s principal role is to prepare and lead the nation’s finest athletes at the summer, winter and youth Olympic Games. Working with the National Governing Bodies, the BOA selects Team GB from the best sportsmen and women who will go on to compete in the 28 summer and seven winter Olympic sports.

The BOA is independent and privately funded. The success of its mission is entirely dependent upon the income received from commercial programmes including but not limited to sponsorship, fundraising, licensing and events.

Now the BOA is recruiting for the role of head of communications. The main focus for the successful candidate will be to develop and direct proactive media relations programmes that raise the awareness and profile of the British Olympic Association and its partners, the National Governing Bodies for sport and Team GB athletes. The primary emphasis will be on sports and news media, covering all media platforms, including print, broadcast, digital, social and photo.

The role will also require the successful applicant to: work closely with the National Governing Bodies for sport and Team GB athletes to effectively balance the competitive needs of athletes with the often unprecedented interests and demands of the media; take full advantage – through proactive media outreach – of the interest generated by the Olympic Games for the long-term growth and benefit of Olympic sport in the UK; and provide professional development and guidance as needed to the communications officers of the National Governing Bodies, including preparation to serve as members of the Team GB Press Officer Staff for Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
