Lively discussion at Broadcast Solutions’ Innovation Days in 2015.

SVG Europe and Broadcast Solutions have released details of the conference programme that will form part of the latter’s Innovation Days event in Bingen, Germany, on 1 June. Production in 4K using IP and 12G-SDI, the challenge of HDR/HDR workflows, and the implications of new distribution models will be among the topics under discussion during a series of panel sessions moderated by SVG Europe Editor David Davies and Broadcast Solutions CTO Rainer Kampe.

Registration is open now via https://www.broadcast-solutions.de/bid/ for a full-day event that will include a trade show area, OB truck showcases and networking opportunities. There will also be a summit programme featuring three panel discussions and a case study…

(Panel) A New Era of Inter-Connectivity: Producing 4K/UHD Using IP and 12G-SDI: With the first all-IP and 12G-SDI OB trucks beginning to hit the road, and an increasing number of broadcast centres implementing comprehensive IP-based or hybrid infrastructures, this discussion will focus on the issue of connectivity and whether it is advantageous to use SDI or IP infrastructures – or indeed hybrid approaches utilising both. Leading vendors and integrators will discuss the imperatives behind this dramatic technological change, the challenges that it presents, and the probable roadmap for the next few years. There will also be analysis of current industry initiatives such as AIMS and the ways in which these can help smooth the transition.

(Panel) HDR / HFR Workflow Challenges for Live Production: With the advent of 4K/UHD and – possibly more importantly, HDR and HFR – the evolution of broadcast camera design is now at its most rapid since at least the introduction of HD. As the industry continues to debate the impact these new technologies and techniques will have on workflows, particularly those for critical live events such as sports and entertainment, leading pro-camera manufacturers will gather to discuss current design imperatives – and predict what new requirements the next few years are likely to bring.

(Panel) New Distribution Models: The Outlook for OTT, 2nd and 3rd Screen and Streaming: The advent of sophisticated new OTT services and the burgeoning interest in second/third screen and streaming services means that content providers now need to accommodate more outlets than ever before. As other areas of the industry move towards 4K / HDR adoption, the evolution of these other platforms raises some important questions: Is HDR useful or necessary to secure the interest of the millennials as the next generation of content consumers? Are new formats required per se, or is it simply more and alternative content that needs to be prioritised? These and other questions will be considered in this final panel of the day.

(Case Study) NEP Europe – Permanent OB Innovation
With a large number of UHD truck constantly growing, NEP Europe is opting for the full 4K/UHD approach when it comes to the renewal of their OB fleet. In this session NEP will chart the actual status of their OB fleet and live production facilities and will enlighten on the future vision for the company, focusing on mobile production units.

Speaker details will be released soon, so please keep an eye on the SVG Europe site for more details.
