A two-day hackathon with digital innovators, tech entrepreneurs, software developers, creatives and engineers will take place during this year’s IBC.
The IBC x Google Cloud Hackfest, which is supported by Formula E, will involve standing up broadcast infrastructure to create a FAST Channel in Google Cloud, creating content that is both real (from Formula E) and content made with GenAI.
Taking place 13-14 September, programme partners also include Techex, Ateme, Norsk, Vizrt and Shure.
Those taking part in the hackfest will be required to spend Saturday and Sunday participating in the Hackfest which will be a “fun and educational free-to-attend event”, organisers said.
The IBC x Google Cloud Hackfest journey began in July with a dry run event in London. Teams from ITV, Channel 4, RTÉ and Sky came together for a day of creative problem-solving and AI-powered development.
The event was hosted at Google’s London HQ, with a separate Dublin location joining remotely. The two Dublin teams – from RTE – went head-to head with the eight London teams to test the production pipeline built in the G Hacks platform on Qwicklabs by Google engineers ahead of the main event at IBC2025.
Prizes will be awarded across several different categories, and participation is free. For more information visit ibc.org.
